Adventures in the Arts: October Knitting Retreat
October 11 @ 2:00 PM - October 13 @ 5:00 PM$475
Spend a glorious October weekend in Maine on a remote lake surrounded by vibrant colors and glistening blue water. Explore the brilliance of the Maine woods in autumn. Let Maine guide Nancy Zane take you on a quiet paddle in the waters of Pocomoonshine or, perhaps hike the water’s edge. Immerse yourself in the peaceful grace of the water, colors, sounds, sights and smells of mid-October. Observe the wildlife as they migrate south or prepare for the long Maine winter ahead. When the temperatures drop and the sun sets relax by the fire with a hot drink and learn to knit! Spending time in nature and connecting on a deeper level has a way of igniting your creative self.
Fiber artist Denise Sawyer will provide knitting instruction. Denise has been raising sheep for 25 years and using their wool to create knitted and felted creations. She spins, dyes, and knits the wool from her flock of Blue Face Leicester sheep, wet felts an assortment of mittens, slippers and vests using traditional felting methods, and teaches an array of classes at her studio in Montville, Maine.
Blue Face Leicester is a soft and lustrous, lovely wool soft enough to wear against you skin. Skeins, hand-dyed in Denise’s studio, needles and patterns are provided.
Meals will be made from local, seasonal organic ingredients. If you love to cook you are welcome to join in the process of creating our community meal. All paddling gear, knitting supplies are included. Accommodations are shared.
Pocomoonshine Lake is a remote unpopulated lake in Alexander, Maine. A perfect place to spend a quiet weekend, enjoying the fall colors, paddling on a remote lake and relaxing by the fire while knitting…what could be better?
