Backcountry Medical Scenarios

Do you have a current WFA, WFR or EMT certification? Are you a backcountry medic, guide, outdoor leader? This field based course is designed for those with a current WFA certification or higher.
Spend the day practicing your Wilderness Medical skills in Camden Hills State Park. We will meet at the Maiden Cliff Trailhead at 8:00 am. Our will hike will begin at the Maiden Cliff Trailhead. From there we will continue on the Ridge Trail to Ocean Lookout and back the Jack Williams Trail to our starting point at 5:00 pm. Along the way you will have the opportunity to practice your wilderness medical skills. Scenarios may include musculoskeletal injuries, medical emergencies, behavior emergencies or environmental emergencies. Decisions may include evacuation procedures or techniques for building a shelter to spend the night outside.
Paying close attention to scene size-up, group management, and patient care you will have the opportunity to put your wilderness medical knowledge into practice in a realistic environment in which you will be recreating or working.
Course is taught by Nancy Zane, Wilderness EMT, SOLO Instructor, Maine Guide, Instructor of Emergency Medicine at the Waldo County Technical Center and founder of North Star Adventures. Nancy’s wilderness passions include: hiking, backpacking, sea kayaking, lake and river canoeing, bicycling, backcountry skiing, ice skating, outdoor cooking and outdoor education.
