Staying Upright: Canoe Skills & Techniques
June 22, 2019 @ 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM$110.00
Are you ready to expand your canoeing skills? Are you a beginner who wants to dip your paddle deeper into the water or an intermediate who is ready for a longer expedition? Then this workshop is for you.
Join us for a fun and educational day on the water. Our day will start with instruction in gear selection, boat design, navigation and paddle technique. On the water we will have the opportunity to put that knowledge into practice. One of the keys to being a confident paddler is learning how to get into your boat on the rare occasion of a capsize. We will practice self rescue and T-rescues (yes you will get wet). After lunch we will work on emergency response plans, weather, packing for an extended trip and water purification.
By the end of the day will will have the skills to confidently plan and execute a multi-day canoe exploration on one of Maine’s beautiful lakes.
I am one again glad to be partnering with Beth Arnold and Gerry Saunders to offer this opportunity. Both Gerry and Beth are accomplished outdoor adventurers and educators.
We will meet at the Kanokolous Club on Unity Pond at 9:00AM. Please let us know if you will be bringing your own boat.
Ten percent of profit will benefit the Sebasticook Regional Land Trust.
There is a sliding scale of $75.00 – $110.00 for this course.
