Wilderness First Aid Afloat: On Water Scenarios
May 11 @ 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM$40
Spend the day practicing your Wilderness Medical skills in Merrymeeting Bay. We will start our day from Mere Point in Brunswick and paddle out to the islands while practicing on water emergency scenarios. This is an incredible opportunity to put theory into practice.
You will practice field-based wilderness medical skills, with an emphasis on scene size-up, patient care, medical emergencies, soft tissue injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, managing the environment and evacuation procedures. Each person will take a leadership role in managing an emergency. You will be making decisions based on weather, tide, patient condition, location (on the water or on an island), resources, time of day, and condition of the group. This course is designed for those with a current Wilderness First Aid Afloat certification.
Course is taught by Nancy Zane, Wilderness EMT, SOLO Instructor, Maine Guide, Instructor of Emergency Medicine at the Waldo County Technical Center and founder of North Star Adventures. Nancy’s wilderness passions include: hiking, backpacking, sea kayaking, lake and river canoeing, bicycling, backcountry skiing, ice skating, outdoor cooking and outdoor education.
