Backcountry Medical Scenarios in Winter

North Star Adventures is exited to announce a new medical scenario class designed to test your skill in the winter.

Do you have a current WFA, WFR or EMT certification?  Are you a backcountry medic, guide, outdoor leader? Has it been a couple years and you feel unsure of your ability to react in an emergency situation? This field based course is designed for those with a current WFA certification or higher.

Through scenarios you will have the opportunity to practice and hone your Wilderness Medical skills in a cold, winter environment. Scenarios will include musculoskeletal injuries, medical emergencies, behavior emergencies, and environmental emergencies. We will also discuss evacuation procedures and techniques for building a shelter.

The course will be held at the Waldo County Technical Center in Waldo, Maine. We will meet at 9am on Saturday January 16th. Be prepared to be outside for the majority of the day. Dress warm, bring plenty of hot drinks, and a chair. We will have an outside fire pit for warmth.

Includes: Materials for scenarios, hot drinks, snacks, and instruction

Course taught by Nancy Zane, Wilderness EMT, SOLO Instructor, Maine Guide, and founder of North Star Adventures. Nancy’s wilderness passions include: hiking, backpacking, sea kayaking, lake and river canoeing, bicycling, backcountry skiing, ice skating, outdoor cooking and outdoor education.
