Paddle Maine Monday: Muscongus Bay
Sea Kayaking – Muscongus Bay – Known for lobster buoys and public islands Muscongus Bay (Abenaki for fishing place) is a sea kayakers dream. Many of the islands are on the Maine Island Trail (MITA) and are accessible for camping and picnicking. They are diverse, some are wooded, some nothing more than rock outcroppings and some have beautiful sand beaches. We will explore several islands on our day long exploration. If you are brave enough to endure the cold water bring your swimsuit and go for a nice refreshing dip.
Expect to see harbor seals, porpoise’s, cormorants, guillemots, osprey, eagles, and herons.
Your day will begin at 9:00 am with an overview of the route and safety check. From there we will spend the day exploring the nooks, crannies, and islands of this magnificent bay.
Sea Kayaks and equipment, lunch, made from locally sourced ingredients, and instruction are included.
