Does navigating on the ocean intimidate you? Are you worried about encountering fog? Gain the knowledge and confidence you need for a safe and fun paddling excursion. Learn how to navigate on tidal waters with North Star Adventures. Getting turned around on the ocean is easy, once on the water it is hard to determine one island from the next. Learn how to read navigational charts and use a compass to find your location and plot your course. The first part of the day will be on land learning how to read a chart and how to use a compass. Once you have an understanding of how a compass works and how to read a chart we will practice using them together.
In the late morning we will practice on the water. There are several options on the water for navigational practice. Weather, time, and tide permitting we will navigate to Five Island Lobster Pound where you can purchase lunch. You may want to bring a bagged lunch in case this option is not available or you don’t want to purchase lunch at the lobster pound.
The course will be held on Westport Island, near Boothbay Harbor, Maine. If you have a sea kayak please bring it with you. If you need one boat rentals are available for 20.00 for the day.
Drinks and snacks are included please bring lunch and plenty of water.
